Rev. Dr. Sang Kong Choi – Pastor
A native of South Korea, Sang Choi immigrated to the United States in 1987 after finishing college in Seoul, Korea. Upon arriving in the United States, he pursued study to become a United Methodist pastor. Being ordained as Deacon and Elder in the New York Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church, he served various congregations in different cities: Hartford CT, Flushing in Queens (NYC), Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Washington, PA. Being appointed by the Bishop to start a new Korean-American congregation, his family moved to Pittsburgh in 2001 and founded the Pittsburgh Korean UMC in Mount Lebanon which is still flourishing today. Prior to coming to Christ Church, Pastor Sang served the First United Methodist Church of Erie, and the Bentleyville–Houston charge in Washington district for 9 years. He has a compassionate heart for reaching out to the people, focusing on the unchurched, both local and international. His personal mottos are "Think Globally, Act Locally" and "The World is My Parish" (John Wesley, Founder of Methodism). His overseas mission travel includes trips to Canada, Peru, and China.
He lives with his wife, Grace, and their two daughters. Their daughter, Jeannie, is a Junior at Allegheny College, and their daughter, Tiffany, is attending Allegheny College as a Freshman. Pastor Sang also serves as Chairperson of the Commission of Religion and Race as well as on the Board of Ordained Ministry of the Western Pennsylvania Conference of The United Methodist Church. During his seminary work, he also finished a hospital chaplain program through Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Overlook Hospital, Chatham, NJ.
